Spinel is a shiny, durable metamorphic rock that comes in many colors including white, red, pink, lavender, green, black and blue. This is why it is sometimes called "The Imposter Stone", because it is often confused for more expensive stones such as Rubies, Sapphires, and even Diamonds. Its name comes from the Latin word "Spinella", which means spine. 

These particular beads have been cut and polished into faceted rondelle beads.
