Chateau Patache d'Aux has been bought over numerous times since its establishment in 1660 by owner of the time, Jean-Jacques d'Aux, Lord of Begadan, up until the current owner since 2016, Antoine Moueix Propriétés. The name Patache refers to both 18th century maritime customs vessels which patrolled the Gironde estuary as well as the rather makeshift stagecoaches that were used to transport noblemen from one place to another, and it is assumed that the three horses drawing a carriage on the bottle label symbolise the three families who built the history of this estate: the Lords of Aux, the Lussac family and the Lapalu family.

The vines are located in two towns, 10 kilometres apart, located in very distinct gelogical formations, both with very different agro-wine characteristics. The first part is located on the Bégadan limestone plateau which has carbonated soil and surface clay thinkness varying according to the condition and depth of the rock layer. The second part is located on the hilltops of Saint Christoly du Médoc, extending over gentle, east-facing slopes, directly onto terraces of alluvial gravel (known as "Girondes")

The oldest vines on these vineyards are 88 years old and Chateau Patache d'Aux works hard to follow a Business Management System, implemented by the Bordeaux Wine Inter-professional Council, and has been awarded two certifications: High Environmental Value Level 3, and ISO 14001, which require no use of CMR (carcinogenic, mutagenic, reprotoxic) products since the 2015 vintage, and instead the use of of biocontrol products is now actively promoted. They target "Zero pesticide residue" in wine produced and has been analysed since the 2016 vintage. They aim to produce wine that is as "clean" as possible in respect to both the ecosystem and consumers and they have the goal to further reduce plant protection inputs while promoting enhances biological soil activity.
