Stonhouse was a baronet and physician who had published a pamphlet against Christianity, then was later converted by Philip Doddridge and James Hervey and eventually took religious orders himself. Originally published in 1769, the pamphlet cites scriptural evidence for his 'Admonitions.' It was republished many times into the nineteenth century by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, but remains scarce in any printing.
