Description:
The works of Manen, a little-known composer, under the direction of Darrell Ann! The Barcelona-born composer Juan Manen (1883-1971) was a contemporary of Turina, following in the footsteps of Albéniz, Granados, and Falla. He was a contemporary of Turina, following Albéniz, Granados, and Falla, the leading composers of modern Spain. While other composers focused on piano music, he worked exclusively as a violinist, giving more than 4,000 recitals in Europe and the United States, mainly in Germany, and was acclaimed as a talent surpassing that of his countryman, Sarasate. Manen was popular worldwide for a time and continued to perform until 1959, when he was 76 years old, but is now largely neglected, perhaps because he left few official recordings. The symphonies and concertos on this album are rich in romanticism and Spanish emotion. The sound of the young Spanish player Valderrama, the winner of the 2011 Sarasate International Competition, is very lively. Naxos Japan
