A master of his craft. Jean-Philippe Collard takes on "Goescas" for the first time! Jean-Philippe Collard is a famous French pianist who will turn 72 this year. His French works and Rachmaninoff are highly acclaimed as masterpieces, but this is his first attempt at "Goescas" by Granados of Spain. Inspired by Goya's paintings, Granados' masterpiece is known for its extremely difficult technique. Interpretively, it is also said to be difficult to express the rich, almost agitated emotion that is unique to Spanish music. In preparing for the recording, Chorale listened intently to Granados' own piano roll performance of the piece and was greatly inspired by it. The result is an incredibly convincing and masterful performance of the chorale "Goescas. Technical mastery is of course no problem, and the French chic and poise are superb.
