Gorges du Verdon or the "Verdon Gorge" is a deep canyon carved through the limestone Alpes de Provence. The gorge is 25km long and can be travelled and viewed from both sides, there being many viewing points. This particular view is from the Balcons de la Mescla, where the Artuby, one of the RIver Verdon's many tributaries, flows into its jade coloured waters. A few trees in Autumn colours grace the lower slopes of the cliff, above which griffon vultures make their nests. These large birds can often be looked down upon as they soar past. The Verdon Gorge is located in Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur in Southern France.
