Bowlium stood at the corner of Sheridan and Montrose in Chicago, a mid-century temple to league bowling and automatic pinspotters. Opening in the 1950s with 30 lanes, it arrived during the golden age when bowling alleys anchored neighborhood life across the city. Some places held a community together without ever meaning to.
Part of our Retro Bowling collection, featuring the defunct alleys of yesteryear.
The Details:
Golden-yellow block text reads "BOWLIUM" above a mid-century cartoon robot in a bowling stance, releasing a ball, with a circular emblem containing the number "30." Below, smaller golden-yellow text reads "AUTOMATIC PINSPOTTERS" and "SHERIDAN RD. AT MONTROSE" with "Chicago, Ill." in script.
