According to SC I, pp. 88-89, these coins originate from a Seleucid mint in the Drangiana. Taylor, KOINON IV (2021), however, attributes them to the Ariaspi, who settled on the lower reaches of the Helmand River and were honored with a privilege of freedom by Alexander the Great in 330/29 BC (Arrian Anab. 3, 27, 5). According to this, the Ariaspi minted the coins, which were based on Seleucid models, to meet regional monetary needs and emphasized their recognition of Seleucid supremacy through the name Antiochus, which is legible on some examples.
