In Victorian Britain, physicians often used distinctive knockers to make their homes easily identifiable in emergencies. This horizontal bar style became known as the Doctor’s knocker, valued for its clarity and volume.
The female hand motif reflects Victorian romantic and European symbolism, while the scallop shell—a symbol of protection, pilgrimage, and welcome—adds classical meaning and elegance.
