This is a classic Great Britain 1 Penny Red, issued between 1854–1857 during the reign of Queen Victoria. Printed in a distinctive red shade, it features the left-facing portrait of the young Queen and carries the plate position check letters Q–B in the lower corners. The design includes the familiar line-engraved background with engine-turned patterns in the side frames. Postmarked with a black barred numeral cancellation, this issue followed the famous Penny Black and represents one of the most widely used stamps of Victorian Britain. Highly sought by collectors for its historical significance and plate varieties, this example is perforated, marking the transition from imperforate to perforated issues in British philately.
