Trade Beads were manufactured in Venice, Bohemia, and other European countries from the late 1400s to the early 1900s for trade with the African and American continents. These beads were exchanged for gold, ivory, and slaves in Africa, and fur with Native Americans in North America. The production of trade beads peaked between the mid-1800s and early 1900s, with millions of beads being produced and exported to Africa, primarily from Venice.
