About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):

Dzi Beads are ancient beads originating from Tibet. Similar to etched carnelian, they are designed by baking natural dyes onto agate to create patterns. It is believed that these beads were made approximately between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. However, the components of the dyes used remain partially unexplained, making Dzi Beads one of the more mysterious antique beads. They are primarily found in Tibet but have also been discovered in Bhutan and regions like Ladakh in the Himalayas. Different patterns baked onto the beads are said to hold various meanings, with the round "eye" motifs being particularly prized. In Tibet, Dzi Beads are considered amulets for wealth and prosperity, passed down through generations and cherished as adornments. Recently, they have also gained popularity in China, where they are known as "Tian Zhu" (Heavenly Beads). While many replicas are made using similar techniques today, authentic ancient Dzi Beads are extremely rare and highly valued.
