Dzi Beads are ancient beads from Tibet, similar to Etched Carnelian Beads, created by baking natural dyes into agate to form intricate designs. These beads are believed to date back to approximately the 1st to 6th century AD. Despite their age, the exact composition of the dyes used remains a mystery, making them one of the most enigmatic antique beads. While primarily found in Tibet, Dzi Beads have also been discovered in Bhutan and the Ladakh region of the Himalayas. Different baked patterns are thought to hold distinct meanings, with the "eye" motif being particularly prized for its good condition and high popularity. In Tibetan culture, these beads are cherished as talismans of wealth and prosperity, passed down through generations and treasured for their decorative value. Recently, they have gained popularity in China, where they are known as "Tianzhu" (Heaven Beads), and many replicas made using similar techniques are now available. However, authentic ancient Dzi Beads are exceedingly rare and highly valued.
