Dzi Beads are ancient beads from Tibet, similar to etched carnelian, created by baking natural dyes into agate to form patterns. These beads are believed to have been made around the 1st to 6th centuries AD. However, the composition of the dyes used in the baking process remains a mystery, making Dzi Beads one of the enigmatic antique beads. While primarily found in Tibet, they have also been discovered in Bhutan and the Himalayan region of Ladakh. Different patterns baked into the beads are believed to hold various meanings, with the round "eye" patterns being particularly prized. In Tibet, Dzi Beads are considered talismans for wealth and prosperity, cherished and passed down through generations. In recent years, their popularity has grown in China, where they are known as "Tian Zhu" (Heavenly Beads), and many replicas using similar techniques have emerged. However, ancient Dzi Beads remain highly rare and valuable.
