About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):

Dzi Beads are ancient beads from Tibet, similar to etched carnelian, where patterns are created by firing natural dyes onto agate. These beads are believed to date from around the 1st to 6th centuries AD, although the precise composition of the dyes used remains a mystery. While primarily found in Tibet, they are also discovered in Bhutan and the Himalayan region of Ladakh. Different firing patterns are thought to hold various meanings, with the "eye" pattern being particularly coveted. In Tibet, these beads are considered talismans of wealth and prosperity, passed down through generations and cherished as adornments. In recent years, their popularity has surged in China, where they are known as "Tianzhu" (Heavenly Beads). Many replicas are produced using similar techniques, but the ancient Dzi Beads retain their exceptional rarity and value.
