Traditional Terracotta Firing Process

The Bankura decor items are hollow and made of fired clay. Preparing clay is one of the most laborious process which involves removing the stones and impurities The clay is sourced locally

The clay figures after being sculpted are then allowed to dry in the sun. After a little drying in the sun, holes are made on some parts of the body for the sculpture to dry.  The drying process is usually then done in closed room for a week. Finally, they are fired in a traditional kiln for five hours under the controlled heat by burning wood and dry leaves.

Note: Traditional terracotta is not as strong or durable as modern ceramic because it is fired at a much lower temperature. Please place this product so that it is safe from damage.
