Warring States Beads were created during China's Warring States period, approximately the 5th to 3rd century BCE, before the unification by the Qin dynasty. The oldest glass in China, dating back to the 11th to 8th century BCE, was excavated in Luoyang, Henan Province. However, it wasn't until the Warring States period that glass products began to circulate widely. Early Warring States Beads were primarily made with a faience body decorated with glass patterns. Later, entirely glass beads were also produced. Common designs include "Seven Star Beads" and "Pasted Eye Beads," characterized by dotted patterns. The glassmaking techniques and design elements largely originated from Western Asia, similar to Roman glass. However, the composition of Chinese glass from this era differs from Western counterparts, showcasing the advanced glassmaking skills of ancient China. These beads hold significant historical value as the beginning of China's glass history and are cherished by collectors for their rich designs and vibrant colors.
