Product Description: This necklace features etched carnelian beads.
Note: This is an antique item and may have scratches, cracks, or chips.
Era: 2500-1800 BCE
History: These etched carnelian beads originate from the Indus Valley Civilization. They were created by applying natron, a plant-derived solution, to the carnelian beads to draw patterns, which were then fired at a low temperature of 300-400°C. While similar beads have been excavated from sites in Mesopotamia and Afghanistan, it is believed that the ones made in the Indus River Valley were transported via land and sea routes.
